Homeopathic Treatment Considerations

Most headaches are due to strain on muscles of the neck or head, or congestion of the blood vessels which supply them; the brain itself cannot feel pain because it contains no pain receptors. Headaches can be a symptom of Anxiety, stress, physical tension, lack of sleep, over-consumption of caffeine, food allergies, eyestrain, Hayfever, etc..

Headaches can also be a symptom of damage to the blood vessels in and around the brain itself, or of infection to the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. In such cases prompt medical action and close observation is required. Constitutional treatment is recommended for re-current headaches caused by stress, anxiety or tension. However the following remedies may also offer relief.

Headaches requires detailed specific prescribing of the "right" homeopathic remedy.

Trial and error or shotgun prescribing does not work, and therefore we don't recommend self-medication. In fact, self-medication will complicate the overall symptom picture.

Homeopathic Treatment Considerations:

Aconite - Headache comes on suddenly, feels worse in cold, draughty surroundings. The person is apprehensive and the headache feels like a tight band around the head or as if the brains are being forced out of the persons head.
Apis - Stinging, stabbing or burning headache, rest of the body feels bruised and tender, symptoms are worse in hot and stuffy surroundings.
Arnica - Head feels bruised and aching, pain occasionally sharp, made worse by stooping.
Belladonna - Throbbing, drumming headache, flushed face, dilated pupils, distinctly worse in hot sun.
Bryonia - Head feels bruised with sharp stabbing pains made worse by the slightest eye movement.
Gelsemium - Head feels full and swollen, face purple and congested-looking, expression dull and heavy, dilated pupils, limbs weak and shaky.
