Chickenpox -
Homeopathic Treatment Considerations

Chickenpox usually starts with a rash, which blisters and forms pustules, turning to scabs later as the pustules heal. It is a common childhood illness, that usually appears in quite a mild form in young children. Although very infectious and quite uncomfortable, it is seldom serious.

The disease is contagious until all the pox have turned to scabs.

Chickenpox has been treated by homeopathy. Chickenpox requires detailed specific prescribing of the "right" homeopathic remedy.

Trial and error or shotgun prescribing does not work, and therefore we don't recommend self-medication. In fact, self-medication will complicate the overall symptom picture.

Below are only some of the remedies we may prescribe, please note how important the individual symptom picture is. Only when all symptoms, aggravation or amelioration are taken into consideration can a specific homeopathic remedy be selected. A further consideration is given to the potency of the remedy.

Homeopathic Treatment Considerations:

Ant Tart - The rash is very slow to develop and the spots are full of pus. The child is very sleepy and may have a bad cough.
Belladonna - This remedy is most useful in the first stages of the disease. Use it when the child has a high temperatures, a red face, and when the skin is hot and dry. The child may have a throbbing headache, and even if tired, may find sleeping difficult.
Mercurius - A useful remedy if the spots become septic. The child is sweaty and thirsty and feels worse at night.
Pulsatilla - This remedy is usually indicated on its emotional characteristics. The child is very weepy and clingy and feels better in cool, fresh air.
Rhus Tox - This is a particularly important remedy for chickenpox, addressing the intense itching and restlessness the spots can induce. The child cannot stop scratching and may be extremely distressed because of it.
